Moodle
What is Moodle?
Moodle is a course management system (CMS) - a software package designed to help educators create quality online courses. Such e-learning systems are sometimes also called Learning Management Systems (LMS) or Virtual Learning Environments (VLE). Moodle is open source software and is available in over 50 languages, including Te Reo Maori.

"As recognised by TEC, 'code mobility' via open source communities holds great promise for an economically sustainable ICT investment pathway for New Zealand education. Early on in the planning stage of the New Zealand Virtual Learning Environment project we recognised the need for a development team with a track record of delivering complex Internet based applications using open source technology. Note only that, but we needed a team with a culture of collaboration and focused on delivering value. That's a pretty hard ask – so we feel very lucky that we've got Catalyst on board – they're brilliant to work with and they’re helping us take open source in education to a new level.

Moodle Partners +
Our team is part of the development effort behind Moodle, with understanding of upcoming features and the ability to customize and enhance Moodle to the max. We have been "release managers" for the 1.4.3 and 1.4.4 releases, and contributed key features for the 1.5 release. You will find us involved in open discussion with Martin Dougiamas and many other developers, designing and debugging the next version of Moodle.
Moodle Conferences
Catalyst's Moodle development team are frequent contributors to Moodle conferences, both here in New Zealand and overseas. The slides of these presentations are available as PDFs.
