Catalyst@home: Bex

2020-05-05

by Chloe Gunn

At Catalyst we are striving to attain normality in our personal lives and reliability in our professional life. The latter is appearing the easier of the two. To maintain our community, share our struggles and tips for working at home, we will be publishing a regular blog with a different Catalysta each time. Today we are meeting Bex, our wonderful receptionist at Catalyst Wellington, who is also a professional meme maker, proud dog mom, talented illustrator, oat-milk enthusiast and all-round wicked cool Catalysta.

So Bex, whats your work from home routine?

“My morning routine normally involves me tumbling outta bed and I stumble to the kitchen, I pour myself a cup of ambition, then yawn and stretch and try to come to life. I'll jump in the shower and the blood starts pumpin', out on the street the traffic starts jumpin' with folks like me on the job from 9 to 5.”

Sounds familiar

So, what does Dolly, I mean Bex, have for breakfast aside from her cup of ambition (which I imagine is filling and fibrous), she has been enjoying some ‘lit’ smoothies for breakfast - buying fruits like pineapples, oranges, feijoas, then chopping, freezing and blending them – coined as "Anti-scurvy potions", Trademark Bex Brexfasts (this doesn’t really exist...yet).

Anti-scurvy smoothies aside, what else is Bex enjoying about working from home?

“A big pro for me would be not having to commute; I'm not missing sitting in traffic for an hour and a half each day!” This cascades to Bex having more and energy to cook yum meals when work is over and she gets to walk her dog (Frankie) in daylight.

Bex has sound life advice for us, she advises to do what we can during this time to "survive", which means not comparing yourself to what you see on social media, “this is not a productivity contest!”

I know I needed to hear this as my Instagram is currently filled with home workouts and people with six-packs – which I don’t need right now when getting dressed is a pretty big deal.

Bex has joined the sourdough craze which is sweeping the nation, there’s no ‘carbing’ her enthusiasm as she loves making things from scratch for her whānau. She is truly on a ‘roll’.

Onto playlist recommendations, “I don't mean to toot my own horn but I've been listening to this one, which is a bit of everything!”

I asked Bex if she would like to mention anything else in her ‘Catalyst at Home’ profile and she simply added, “I am really grateful to work for a company like Catalyst during this uncertain time.”

So shout-out to our Directors, who sat around a table in 1997 (some say after a few drinks, some say not), when Catalyst was born.
