Taranaki Regional Council

A web solution for the whole community

A ‘thriving and prosperous Taranaki’ is the big picture that drives everything the Taranaki Regional Council (TRC) does. The Council has a range of responsibilities including local infrastructure, local public services, and performance of regulatory functions.

Our solution

TRC chose us to help rebuild their website from the ground up, using SilverStripe. They needed a site to provide a diverse range of information and services for people all over the Taranaki region and beyond.

UX focus

Our early user research work involved persona development and in the field interviews with dairy farmers, through to riding buses with locals. From this research we tailored the design of environmental data and the bus and transport experiences specifically for these audiences.

We designed experiences that kept user interest and compelled them to discover relevant services or content they might not otherwise have known about. This increased engagement and increased the value of each visit.

A major component for this project was the content strategy – we worked with TRC to create this strategy and reviewed early content against the strategy and intent of the site.

Distributed team, great results

Geographical distance was no barrier to success, despite TRC’s location more than four hours’ drive from our head office in Wellington. Using an Agile framework, our team worked closely with TRC staff to deliver a website that precisely met TRC’s requirements.

Our team worked collaboratively to scope, plan, design, build, test and deliver a beautiful site that showcases the region and provides excellent services for locals.

The work the team at Catalyst IT produced for the Council was outstanding. We look forward to a long-term relationship.
