Experienced JavaScript Developer - New Zealand - Wellington

Catalyst has been dedicated to using the world’s best open source software and tools to deliver robust IT solutions for our clients all over the globe for 20 years. Along with our passion for open source, we are a company that is committed to equal opportunities for all, regardless of individual characteristics such as gender, age, or ethnicity.

Our hiring processes reflect our diversity policy which you can read in full here: https://www.catalyst.net.nz/content/catalyst-diversity-policy

We are looking for an intermediate or senior JavaScript developer to help us build modern interactive JavaScript frontends for our clients. You will be part of our dedicated front-end development team, with lots of opportunities to collaborate with our UX and design specialists, backend developers and your fellow front-end developers across the company. You’ll be expected to participate in client-facing meetings, so you need to be able to explain your ideas clearly.

We are looking for someone with:

  • At least a couple of years experience coding in JavaScript.
  • Knowledge of a version control system like Git.
  • Familiarity with command line interfaces.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Most of our recent projects utilise React and Redux, but we have a good mix of projects old and new using technologies such as Node.js, Angular, Ember, jQuery, Cordova and React Native so there are plenty of opportunities to learn new things. We use Gitlab for code review (and you’ll be expected to help review your colleagues’ code), and a mix of Webpack and gulp for our build tooling.

Your daily responsibilities will be JavaScript development, but we do love well-rounded developers so if you have extra abilities, whether it’s with CSS development, backend development, mentoring others or something else entirely, be sure to let us know in your application!

Benefits:

Being a good employer is really important to us. We pay our staff a fair wage and make sure they have any support they need to grow their skills.

Our employees enjoy Pizza Thursday every month – the whole office comes together to eat pizza and share knowledge. We also get together every Friday to relax, share company news and celebrate our achievements.

We also offer subsidised health insurance, flexible working hours, plenty of training opportunities, yoga, board games, and really, really good coffee.
