Catalyst are thrilled to announce that Federation University are now up and running a newly upgraded instance of Moodle LMS. Going live with a Moodle 3.0 upgrade on dedicated internal infrastructure on Wednesday 20 July 2016.
Federation University Australia, or FedUni is Australia's newest University. It is the culmination of the former University of Ballarat and the Gippsland Campus of Monash University.
FedUni offers a huge array of course to students both on and off campus. Having a solid learning management system to use was a critical component to their strategy.
FedUni and Catalyst have been working together for a number of years and Catalyst were engaged to help with the current Moodle upgrade and infrastructure project.
As part of the infrastructure consulting services that Catalyst offers our clients, we worked together with FedUni infrastructure and application team members. Catalyst also completed a round of Moodle performance and UX optimisations, making Moodle an even better fit for the FedUni student body.
The project delivery included:
- Upgrade of Moodle LMS to latest stable version of Moodle 3.0
- Delivery of Fully Responsive Boostrap 3.0 Moodle Theme, meaning it has better user experience on mobile and tablet devices.
- GoCD Continuous Deployment / Continuous Integration solution, empowering FedUni to manage and automated their own deployments .
- Moodle performance testing and optimisation. The background was that the previous version of Moodle was struggling to handle any more than 800 concurrent users.. The newly deployed Moodle 3.0 stack has been tested to over 2000 concurrent users, meaning it has a better level of baseline performance for the academic body.
The new FedUni Moodle went live on Wed, July 20th 2016, With the total project timeline being less than three months. Delivery was within predicted time frames and within budget, Catalyst are thrilled with the outcome, as are Federation University.
Catalyst wishes Federation University all the best for 2016. We cannot wait to see what you achieve.
