Version 15.04 of Mahara, the open source ePortfolio software, was released in mid-April. This new release from the core project team at Catalyst features 360 changes, including moving web services into core.
With web services now available by default in Mahara, the platform is easier to integrate with other systems, for example learning management systems. This change ensures Mahara will be well placed to continue evolving and developing in the future.
As befits an open source ePortfolio system, in this release of Mahara, contributions came from all over the world, including Australia, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, Switzerland, and the UK.
The Mahara translation project is also making excellent progress. Mahara is available in 40 languages including the following, which are more than 90% translated: Basque, Catalan, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, and Slovenian.
Several Catalyst clients supported the development of new features in this latest release. We would like to thank:
- New York Institute of Technology
- New Zealand Ministry of Education
- Teaching and Learning Centre, University of Canberra
Finally, the five students from the Catalyst Open Source Academy in January 2015 who chose Mahara as their project have submitted a total of thirty patches to Mahara core. This is the largest number of patches for any Academy group so far and sets a high bar for the 2016 students.
