Updated December 1st: 2022 scholarship applications are now closed.
Applications are now open for the Catalyst Open Source Scholarship!
Each year Catalyst offers an Open Source Scholarship to two recipients who intend to study computer science or related subjects.
"The scholarship I received from Catalyst was instrumental in being able to complete my studies. Not having to worry about my finances was an incredible mental relief which let me put all my energy into my study. Being able to work at Catalyst since has been a great opportunity to further my technical skills," says Liam Sharpe, previous scholarship recipient and current Catalyst employee.
The scholarship consists of a $2000 payment in March for each of the three years of study and must be used for study related costs. Preference is given to those who have previously taken part in the Open Source Academy.
Catalyst invites you to apply if you are an Aotearoa citizen or permanent resident, you will be over 16 years of age at the start of your study, and you’re applying to enrol in a full time, full year programme of study at a University, Polytechnic or Wānanga.
“This is our investment in the next generation of talented open source developers. We want to encourage them to excel in their chosen careers. As a company, it's important we give back by supporting the professionals of the future, and this scholarship helps us do that,” says Don Christie, Catalyst Managing Director.
A selection panel will consider if you show a genuine desire to succeed in your chosen IT field, and you are committed to completing your study programme. The panel will also take into account your commitment to open source technologies, and if you are keen to get employment in an IT related industry or field. Shortlisted applicants may be asked to attend an interview.
"Catalyst has always shown a true commitment to the next generation of people in tech, through their open source academy which introduced me to the organisation, the many internship opportunities which has given some of my peers their start in this industry, and this scholarship. I'm proud to work at Catalyst full-time now that I've finished studying, and will always be grateful for the many forms of support I was given when I was younger, including the scholarship." Aleisha Amohia, another previous scholarship recipient and current Catalyst employee.
Applications for the 2022 scholarships closed on the 30th of November 2021.
