Introduction to Shell Scripting
About the course
In this course, you will learn how to write and run scripts to automate the execution of collections of shell commands.
You will learn useful shell features that will aid you in creating advanced and intelligent scripts along with best practices for creating user-friendly scripts.
Throughout the course, you will gain practical experience, being tasked with the creation of simple scripts that will exercise the skills you have learnt.

- Command substitution
- Flow control with if-statements and loops
- Input validation
- Return statuses
- Looping (while, until, for)
- Reading input
Note: These are the topics normally covered but might alter slightly depending on the needs of the trainees.
Anyone who has some Shell experience and wants to be able to write and run Shell scripts.
Attendees must have already attended the Introduction to Shell half day course, or be very familiar with using the Linux shell.
