Modern slavery

Catalyst.Net Limited is a New Zealand technology company providing open source solutions, professional services, and cloud infrastructure. We are committed to conducting our business ethically and to ensuring that modern slavery and human trafficking have no place in our operations or supply chain.

We recognise that modern slavery encompasses forced labour, debt bondage, human trafficking, and other forms of exploitation. While New Zealand does not yet have mandatory modern slavery reporting legislation, we are committed to meeting the reasonable expectations of our clients, partners, and the communities we operate in, including those in Australia and the United Kingdom where legislative obligations exist.

Our New Zealand staff are employed directly in New Zealand under employment agreements consistent with New Zealand employment law, including the Employment Relations Act 2000 and the Minimum Wage Act 1983. We have no manufacturing operations and do not operate in sectors or geographies considered high risk for labour exploitation.

Our supply chain primarily comprises software vendors, cloud service providers, and technology infrastructure suppliers. The majority of our suppliers are established businesses operating in comparable regulatory environments, predominantly in New Zealand, but also including software applications and systems developed by companies based in Australia, Europe or international open source communities.

We recognise that even in low-risk supply chains, vigilance is important. Our Procurement Policy requires that modern slavery considerations are assessed as part of our supplier due diligence process before any new supplier is engaged. Where concerns are identified, we will not proceed with engagement until those concerns are resolved.

We take the following steps to address modern slavery risk:

  • Supplier due diligence: Before engaging a new supplier, we confirm there are no known modern slavery concerns as part of our minimum on-boarding requirements.
  • Procurement principles: Our Procurement Policy sets out expectations for supplier conduct, including in relation to labour practices, and provides a framework for escalating concerns.
  • Raising concerns: We encourage our people to raise any concerns about modern slavery or unethical labour practices through our internal reporting channels, including those set out in our Anti-Corruption and Bribery Policy. People raising concerns in good faith are protected under the Protected Disclosures (Protection of Whistleblowers) Act 2022, and we are committed to a culture where concerns can be raised without fear of reprisal.

We intend to continue developing our approach as best practice evolves and as the regulatory environment in New Zealand and the markets we operate in matures. This includes reviewing our supplier due diligence process periodically and considering whether additional supplier assurances are appropriate for higher-risk engagements.
