Otago Daily Times and its Drupal CMS

Explore how Catalyst enabled the Otago Daily Times to deliver new and upcoming stories to the Otago public with its Drupal upgrade and customisations.

Background

Locally owned by the Allied Press, the Otago Daily Times (ODT) is New Zealand's oldest daily newspaper. Proudly independent, the ODT combines strong local news coverage with national and international news, covering stories online using Drupal as its content management system (CMS).

Opportunity

Allied Press went to market to find an experienced Drupal vendor who could upgrade its CMS ensuring they could still deliver the news for the people of Otago and beyond. ODT decided to partner with Catalyst who is experienced in Drupal upgrades and customisations.

Solution

Catalyst’s Drupal team migrated ODT to Drupal 7, which successfully launched in 2016. Catalyst’s developers also customised the experience, so ODT staff had more flexibility to experiment with their stories. The CMS is set up to respond quickly to new and developing stories by launching digital content to match. The news services' wire feed integration ensures the site is always up to date. Since launching, the Otago Daily Times has reached over 550,000 online readers per month.

Catalyst continues to support the Allied Press with ongoing maintenance.
