Qualmark ensures business continuity with Catalyst hosting services

Qualmark partnered with Catalyst to ensure a speedy and secure hosting solution for its web services, ensuring continuity for its tourism operators.

Background

Qualmark New Zealand Ltd (Qualmark) is New Zealand tourism’s official quality assurance organisation. Its web service, qualmarklogos.co.nz, plays a crucial role in the tourism digital ecosystem, supplying logo assets and validating ratings for hundreds of tourism operators via the Tourism Business Database. Qualmark also has a separate public website and a member-only portal hosted by Catalyst.

In late May 2025, Qualmark’s web services hosting provider for qualmarklogos.co.nz announced it would discontinue its hosting and support services at the end of June. 

Opportunity

Qualmark had just 30 days to find a new host for qualmarklogos.co.nz, the database, and associated services. With limited documentation available from the outgoing provider and a critical need to avoid any disruption to tourism operators, Qualmark urgently needed a trusted provider to lead the migration.

Given its existing relationship with Catalyst, Qualmark engaged Catalyst to manage the migration.

Solution

Catalyst's team acted immediately to accommodate the tight deadline. Due to the limited hosting documentation, the project began by performing a cursory audit of the server. The audit provided Catalyst with a high-level understanding of the previous hosting process, and from here, they set up automations to collect the configuration settings and data for the migration.

The migration process involved:

Solution design: Catalyst assessed the application's requirements and used best practices to design a suitable and secure hosting environment on Catalyst Cloud.

Infrastructure deployment and migration: Catalyst provisioned the new SFTP servers and managed the transfer of the application code and existing assets from the previous provider.

Post migration support: Catalyst continues to provide ongoing integration support for Qualmark.

SFTP configuration: A new SFTP server was set up to ensure the daily XML data feed from the client’s CRM provider (Magnetism Solution) continued without interruption. The feed validates member awards and provides up-to-date ratings.

Minimal downtime: The team ensured the final DNS changes to the domain were made to the new infrastructure, completing the transition with minimal downtime.

Ensured data sovereignty: Hosted on a 100% New Zealand-owned cloud, the web services’ data is protected under New Zealand laws.

Results

The migration was completed successfully within two weeks, well within the critical timeframe, ensuring business continuity for Qualmark and the hundreds of websites that depend on its data. Qualmark was pleased with the successful and speedy migration.
