Tōtara v19 has improvements to create a smoother learning journey with a new look, feel, and functionality. As a Tōtara administrator, here are five enhancements to support a cohesive learning experience.
5 Tōtara enhancements
1. Intuitive navigation
In the new Inspire theme(external link), the main menu has shifted from the top of the screen to the left-hand side. As a site administrator, you have more control over the menu content and can tailor it to your learner's needs. Plus, you can adjust navigation items for specific audiences, ensuring learners only see what's relevant to them.
2. Easier learning on the go
Learners can resume learning on the go, review past content, and start new courses on the Tōtara mobile app. With the update, learners have a clearer, consistent view, no matter how they access their courses. Learners can easily download learning to access courses offline, whether they run out of data, or have limited Wi-Fi connection.
The Tōtara app is free on Apple and Google App stores.(external link)
3. Smarter search results
Finding the right content is easier with enhanced tagging and improved search functionality(external link). Learners can search workspace names and descriptions in the Explore Catalogue, with search and filter options now in the same place creating a smoother search experience.
Sites can also tag public and private Tōtara workspaces, courses, and playlists to help highlight relevant content. A shared taxonomy has been developed across content types to create an intuitive user experience.
To continue improving the tagging experience Tōtara has developed a prototype for a 'course tag generator' with Open AI integration. Check out an example of the tag generator on their human-centric AI principles page(external link).
4. Improved goal setting
Tōtara v19 enables you to streamline goal setting by linking tasks and courses to specific learner goals. The enhancements also make it easier to monitor, report, and provide feedback on how learners are progressing.
5. Collaboration as standard
Tōtara v19 has built more tools to enable learners to engage meaningfully with learning materials. To aid peer-to-peer learning learners can share their content through resources, playlists, and surveys. Plus, there are dedicated spaces like forums and workspaces to discuss topics and share ideas.
